As part of our commitment made during Volunteers’ Week, Sherborne Food Bank held a Summer ‘Thank You’ Event on Saturday 19th August, to show our appreciation to volunteers, referrers and supporters. The event was kindly supported by Battens Charitable Trust which enabled us to offer a well-deserved afternoon tea supplied by Jane at Oliver’s Coffeehouse.

We are grateful to Cllr Margaret Crossman, Mayor of Sherborne and a Trustee of the Food Bank, for her words of introduction, and also to John Crossman, a long-standing Trustee, who gave a thought-provoking speech reminding us that we are ALL the Food Bank. In addition, guests were able to view a rolling presentation on the big screen detailing Sherborne Food Bank’s achievements and aims for the future.

Liz Murray, our Communications Volunteer, surprised three of those present in recognition of their long service. She acknowledged John Crossman, who is stepping down as a Trustee after some eight years but continuing as an Ambassador to the Food Bank; Pete Bryer, who is likewise leaving as a Trustee after many years but continuing as a much-valued delivery driver; and Phil Wield, who has been vital to ensuring that requests from referrers get efficiently through the system to delivery for the past two years.

We thank them and ALL our volunteers, long-standing and new, for their loyalty and service to the community.

We applaud our helpers on the day too – Liz and Clive, Michela, Jill and daughter Hermione and Alex with her daughter Evie – who prepared, served and washed up, all with a smile, and helped to make the occasion such a success.

And finally, a thank you to you all from me personally – to our volunteers, referrers and supporters. I look forward to working with you all as we grasp the opportunities, and face the challenges, ahead.
